Christopher “Play” Martin of Kid ‘n Play was the first rapper to have a clothing line

Published October 15, 2019 by

In 1992, Christopher “Play” Martin of Kid ‘n Play owned a clothing boutique called IV Plai (pronounced ”foreplay”) in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York with his partner Dana Dane. Christopher Martin designed a lot of the denim and leather clothing stocked in the store. IV Plai sold a clothing line started by Christopher “Play” Martin himself called the Select Group, which would make Christopher “Play” Martin of Kid ‘n Play the first rapper to have a clothing line.
