The Chicago rapper faces extended time behind bars after conviction for aggravated assault

Chicago rapper Lil Reese, born Tavares Taylor, has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of assaulting a family member. Police records reveal that the 31-year-old was sentenced on October 16 in Harris County, Texas. His projected release date is set for February 6, 2029, though he will be eligible for parole in August 2026.

The conviction stems from an incident on March 9, 2022, which police have classified as aggravated assault of a family member. Details surrounding the attack remain unclear, but it was reported at the time that Reese was arrested in May of the same year, nearly two months after the incident, and was held on a $60,000 bond.

This legal issue adds to a string of troubles Reese has faced in recent years. In September 2023, he was arrested again, this time for allegedly punching and strangling his ex-girlfriend at a strip club in Houston. Reese’s ongoing legal battles continue to overshadow his career, with this latest conviction marking a significant setback in his life and music.
