    Jeffery Lamar Williams aka Young Thug was born in 1991 in Atlanta. He got his start in rap in 2010 and a little while later his sound caught the attention of Gucci Mane. In 2014 he got into business with Baby at Cash Money with his Rich Gang imprint and his popularity continued to rise. He’s the founder of YSL which stands for Young Stoner Life after also being signed to Future and 300 Ent.

    In 2016 he released Jeffery and got audiences talking about his choice to wear a designer dress on the mixtape cover. He’s worked with Drake, Chris Brown, 2 Chainz, and others and helped rappers Gunna and Lil baby get into the rap game. In 2022, YSL was indicted on R.I.C.O. charges and Young Thug has been in a Georgia jail since that May. He still released music from behind bars.

    Nipsey Hussle received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

    Crenshaw rapper Nipsey Hussle received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on what would have been his 37th birthday. “From 60th St. to a Star on Hollywood,” Lauren London posted on her Instagram. “Happy Heavenly Birthday Hussle Man. Love You Beyond.”

    This marks the 2,729th star on the famous sidewalks of Hollywood. Check out the video to hear more from London and others about this great honor.

    Born Airmiess Joseph Asghedom, Nipsey Hussle came to Earth in Los Angeles, CA in 1985. He was born and bred in the Crenshaw neighborhood of South Central LA. His father Dawit Asghedom immigrated from Eretria and his mother Angelique Smith is African American. He was inspired by Snoop and other west coast rappers and made a way for himself as a rapper.

    Hussle was a member of the Rollin’ 60s Crips, an LA gang, but it didn’t stop him from making his neighborhood a better place. He was a member of XXL’s 2010 Freshman Class and gained respect for his clever marketing of releases such as his $100 each CD Crenshaw and Marathon mixtape series.

    Nipsey was a Grammy-nominated artist for his album Victory Lap when he was tragically gunned down in front of his Marathon Clothing store on March 31, 2019, at the age of 33 by a local gang member. He has since received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

    Drill legend Chief Keef was born Keith Farrelle Cozart in Chicago in 1995. He got his start rapping in his teens and blew up at the age of 16 when Kanye remixed his son “I Don’t Like.” He was on house arrest in Chicago when he got famous and due to ongoing legal problems, moved to Los Angeles.

    His debut was 2012’s Finally Rich, delivered via Interscope records. He’s gone on to work with Travis Scott, Mac Miller, and Playboi Carti. He has become one of the more influential rappers to popularize drill music.

    Black Thought and Danger Mouse hack the game with Cheat Codes

    Philly spitter Black Thought and superproducer Danger Mouse have teamed up for a project titled Cheat Codes. The 12-track album is full of bangers from The Roots frontman. Hard bars over eccentric boom bap courtesy of the Gnarls Barkley maestro. It features Joey Badass, Russ, Conway the Machine, Raekwon, and others.

    A true emcee’s emcee, Thought is a lyrical giant. His flows stay dipped in the latest street slang and academic-level references. The soulful chops produced by Danger Mouse provide the perfect backdrop for Tariq Trotter to create his verbal theater. “Belize” is a rare treat, featuring the late MF Doom.

    Black Thought has been busy with his gig on Jimmy Fallon. He’s released a series of EPs called Streams of Thought over the past few years. The Roots’ last project was 2014’s “…And Then You Shoot Your Cousin” and fans have long thirsted for a solo project from Black Thought, and like “A Written Testimony” by Jay Electronica, this might be the closest we get.

    Symere Bysil Woods was born in 1995. The Philly-born rapper is known as Lil Uzi Vert and they are one of the most successful “Lil” rappers of all time. They blew up on SoundCloud and got picked up to tour with The Weeknd. Their breakout hit “XO Tour Llif3” put them on the A-list and they haven’t left since.     They’ve worked with trap artists and experimented with punk and rock music. He had a 10-karat diamond implanted into his forehead. He’s been in a relationship with JT from City Girls. In 2022, Uzi Vert came out as sexually fluid and changed their pronouns.

    Soulja Boy was born DeAndre Cortez Way in 1990. He was born in Chicago but moved to Atlanta six years later. He is known for his music made in the early 2000 ringtone era. He is the first rapper to successfully build a rap career using social media. He is best known for his song and dance “Crank That (Soulja Boy).”

    His run-ins with the law include a few weapons charges but he has remained influential regardless. He’s become a meme after appearing on The Breakfast Club. Soulja Boy has remained active, recording with Kanye West and others. He is a businessman in addition to rap.
