A-1 DJ Pambaataa was the first female Hip-Hop DJ

1 min read

A-1 DJ Pambaataa became the first female Hip-Hop DJ when she joined The Mighty Crew with DJ Disco Wiz, Casanova Fly (Grandmaster Caz), Prince Whipper Whip, and Dot-A-Rock. Along with the crew, Casavona Fly had Casanova Fly Girls, which Wiz’s girlfriend was in. Casanova Fly took her under his wing and she DJ’d under the name Pambaataa (Pam-baa-taa) which was a tribute to Zulu Nation founder and Hip-Hop godfather Afrika Bambaataa.

On February 6, 2014, DJ Disco Wiz wrote on his Twitter, “In 1978 we introduced female A-1 DJ Pambaataa into our crew. (The Mighty Force) hip-hop 101 #tbt“.
