Kendrick Lamar’s parents are from Chicago and they enjoyed soul music playing around the house; they listened to Otis, Isley Brothers, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and more.
During a 2013 interview with Arsenio Hall, Kendrick Lamar revealed that his first name is an ode to late Temptations co-founder Eddie Kendricks saying; “….Otis, Isley Brothers, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and Luther Vandross. I was raised on gangster rap and Otis.. My mother named me after Eddie Kendricks, she just took the s off the joint”
