Lil Wayne Says His Best Verse is Still Ahead, But Picks His Favorite So Far

Published January 28, 2025 by

Weezy reflects on his career and the verse that earned respect from New York artists

Lil Wayne is confident that his best verse is yet to come, but when it comes to his favorite, he points to a 1997 track, “Block Burner,” from the Hot Boys’ album Get It How U Live! At just 15 years old, Wayne delivered a standout performance on the track, notably without cursing—a choice that earned him respect from many of his New York peers.

Speaking on Maverick Carter’s Mavericks show, Wayne explained that the verse continues to stand out in his catalog. “To me, my best verse is always gonna be… my first solo song on the Hot Boys album,” he shared, highlighting how his clean lyrics set him apart in the rap scene. “They would always tell me, ‘I thought you were just gonna be a little sing-song artist where it doesn’t matter if you cussing or not. But you really be rapping.'”

The conversation comes as Wayne and the Hot Boys announce an extension of their reunion tour. Three upcoming shows in Tampa, Charlotte, and St. Louis are set for late February, with B.G., Juvenile, and Turk joining Wayne on stage. The announcement follows their successful comeback performance at LilWeezyana Fest in November.
