‘Madvillainy’ reaches new milestone

MF Doom and Madlib’s joint album Madvillainy has officially been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America after crossing the 500k mark in sales.

The certification comes right after the album reached its 20th anniversary. Peanut Butter Wolf, founder of Stones Throw Records which released the album, described how MF and Madlib created the project at his home.

“This was an album where Madlib chose to record the beats in my basement that we called The Bomb Shelter (it was a literally a concrete bomb shelter),” Wolf wrote under a post by Complex Music.

“DOOM recorded his vocals in my bedroom down the hall where we also had @ecoleye do a photo shoot that became the album cover.”
