Russ has criticized hip hop for glorifying substance abuse, calling it ‘the glorification of self-destruction’

Russ has expressed his issues with hip hop in general with regards to the glorification of substance abuse. He calls it “the glorification of self-destruction.” While reflecting on his 2017 post of wearing a T-shirt that read, “How many Xans and Lean do you have to do before you realize you’re a fucking loser,” Russ, the New Jersey rapper, spoke about it on his Apple Music show on December 3. He mentioned during the show, “I would say it differently now,” but that issue at least needs to be addressed now.

“That shit needed to be said. It had to be called out by someone within that space, that one glorifies substance abuse—especially all over social media, making it seem cool without knowing the ramifications and responsibilities. The artist can inspire either self-destruction or improvement,” he said.

Besides this, Russ condemned the trend in music concerning self-destruction-“People want to see the train wreck.”
