Clipse Preview Kendrick Lamar’s Fiery Verse on “Chains & Whips”

Def Jam Fallout Sparked by Uncensored Bars Leads Duo to Roc Nation

Clipse have teased a powerful guest verse from Kendrick Lamar on their upcoming track “Chains & Whips,” set to appear on their reunion album Let God Sort Em Out. Previewed during a rooftop session with Pharrell Williams, the snippet features Kendrick taking aim at the current state of Hip Hop: “Let’s be clear, Hip Hop died again / Half of my profits may go to Rakim / How many Judases done let me down? / But fuck it, the West mine’s, we right now.”

The verse reportedly sparked major conflict with Def Jam. In an interview with GQ, Pusha T revealed the label demanded Lamar’s lyrics be censored or removed entirely — a demand Clipse refused to meet. “They wanted me to ask Kendrick to censor his verse, which of course I was never doing,” Pusha said.

The situation ultimately led to Clipse buying themselves out of their contract. Their manager, Steven Victor, confirmed the duo paid a seven-figure sum to retain full creative control. “They bought themselves out of the deal,” he told Billboard.

Now signed to Roc Nation, Clipse are gearing up to release what’s shaping up to be one of the most politically charged and anticipated albums of the year.

Clipse Reflect on Chad Hugo’s Absence from New Album Amid Neptunes Rift

Clipse have spoken candidly about the fallout between

Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, which has prevented the full Neptunes reunion fans may have hoped for on their upcoming album, Let God Sort Em Out.

During an appearance on Popcast, No Malice expressed nothing but love for Hugo despite his absence from the project.

“Absolutely miss Chad,” he said. “As far as being on the album. But I’ll see Chad in the airport, in the street, at Buffalo Wild Wings in VA — it’s always still love.”

Pusha T, while equally respectful, was more pragmatic about the current dynamic:

“Chad’s my guy. I love Chad. Pharrell’s my guy, too. We’re brothers, we came up together. But when you say ‘missing’ in the music — there is no missing when it comes to Clipse. If it’s just P, it don’t matter — we find what we find.”

The longtime collaborators are pressing forward with Pharrell as sole producer on the project due to his ongoing legal dispute with Hugo, his former Neptunes partner. Hugo sued Pharrell in 2023 for allegedly attempting to take full control of The Neptunes trademark, despite a longstanding agreement to split rights equally.

Pharrell, for his part, has acknowledged the rift but said he still holds his childhood friend in high regard.

“I love him, and I always wish him the absolute best,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m very grateful for our time together.”

While the legal battle has kept the Neptunes from fully reuniting, Clipse seem determined to honor their legacy — and push forward with or without both architects behind the boards.

Pusha T Announces Completion of Clipse’s First Album in 15 Years

Pusha T has officially put to rest the much-awaited news of the complete new album of Clipse

The artist shared the news during his interview with journalist Ari Melber at Miami Art Week. He made the exciting announcement as: “We always take long, people be mad. [Though] it’s okay ’cause it’s done. I’m telling y’all, it’s done. I promise you. It’s in my phone.”

Tentatively titled Let God Sort Em Out, the project is going to be Pop’s first in 15 years. The rapper took confidence over the said album due to the duo’s long journey since the 1990s.

“We’ve been on that since ’98/’99, but I think people are about to witness great things… you will get to see how street Hip Hop matures,” said .

He shed some light on what he called a creative chemistry behind this project, adding long-time collaborator Pharrell Williams into the equation.

“This is chemistry, this is a brotherhood. And when I speak on this, it’s in the relation of Pharrell as well. He produced it from top to bottom,” Pusha explained.

He said that this meticulous process is the reason why there has been much pressure from fans. “We are very precious with this music; we are very, very meticulous about everything that we do when it comes to that.”

Clipse’s reunion will then be awaited by the fans with the new monumental promise of the return.

Clipse join Def Jam roster for their upcoming album

The Clipse sign a new recording contract with Def Jam ahead of releasing their highly-anticipated album, Let God Sort Em Out.

Push & Malice want to display ‘maturity’ on new album

It’s now official that the Clipse is working on their first album as a duo in 15 years. During an interview with Vulture, the two brothers Pusha T & No Malice affirmed that the LP is on the way and revealed what fans should be from it.

“I think the album shows the supreme maturation of a rap duo,” Push explained. “I think this is where you get the difference between taste and filler. This music is curated. This is a high taste-level piece of work. You can only have that level of taste when you have the fundamentals down to a science. I think it’s been definitely missing. Then there’s the competitive aspect.”

Malice continued, “This is smart basketball. It’s fundamentals. And not only that, it’s authenticity. It’s what rap should look like if you’re real about your craft, real about your experience, real about your storytelling. It’s bringing the fans along to see the growth, not trying to fit in or fabricate.

“It just seems like in other genres of music, they have the luxury of growing. For some reason, we act like we’re not supposed to evolve. This is what the true evolution of the Clipse looks like. It’s just good to be able to show that and still have high-level raps.”

The It’s Almost Dry rapper added, “Pharrell producing everything is also an ode to the type of music and the type of albums we want to make. We still want to make full bodies of work. These are movies, man. These aren’t just songs. This isn’t just a collection of joints we went in and banged out.”

No Malice and Pusha T talk future collaborations

The Clipse brothers No Malice and Pusha T recently appeared on GOAT Mag for an interview where they discussed who they’d like to team up with in the future.

“As far as Hip Hop goes, the highwater mark is always collaborating with JAY-Z, so I would like that,” No Malice explained. “Outside of Hip Hop, I would like to see Clipse with artists like Coldplay and The Killers, with big arena records, festivals, something that moves globally.”

On his side, Pusha explained: “Man. I don’t know. I’m collab’d out.” He added, “I don’t even care about collaborations if it’s not among a great body of work. I’m into cohesive, great bodies of work. I feel like, in these times, with everybody feeling so fly-by-night, that’s the only thing that’s keeping this genre alive.”

“I push the button every so often. I’m like, ‘Yo, listen to what I just made! We can really do this’ and he brushes me off,” he said. “ If I had it my way, it would be the Clipse. It’s really up to my brother.”
