G Herbo speaks on recently losing his dad: ‘I still find a reason to get up and smile’

Herb’s father died two weeks ago

G Herbo decided to break the news of his father’s death at a rather peculiar moment—a motivational speech during a livestream with Kai Cenat.

Appearing on Cenat’s ongoing month-long Mafiathon 2 stream on Saturday (November 16), the Chicago rapper shared that his dad died around two weeks ago. “When the going get tough, the tough get going,” Swervo began.

“There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. You know me, personally, I’ve been through a lot. I always overcome adversity. Trial, tribulations — there’s always triumph at the end. You gotta get up, work hard to be better than you were yesterday.

“I just lost my pops two weeks ago, two-and-a-half weeks ago,” he added. “I still find a reason to get up and smile, to get up and work, to provide for my family, to be there for my children.”

After the “PTSD” rapper’s son who was in his company started crying following his grandad’s death mention: Herb continued: “My son, he crying because I’m talking about his grandfather. But it’s okay, man. Family first.

“You miss your pop-pop?” he added. “It’s okay. He’s living through you, son.”

G Herbo to release B Side of ‘Survivor’s Remorse’ on October 10

Chicago rapper G Herbo delivers A Side of his fifth studio album, Survivor’s Remorse. The 12-song package dropped Friday (October 7) with features from Jeremih, Future, Offset, Benny the Butcher, Gunna, Yosohn, and Essex.

The B Side of the album will be released on Monday (October 10) and will boast guest appearances from Young Thug, Kodak Black, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Conway the Machine. It’ll contain 13 tracks which amounts to 25 songs on the whole album.

During a recent conversation with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Swervo explained why he split the album into two parts, pointing to longevity as his motive.

“I want the fans to be able to live with the music for a second,” Herb said of the follow-up to his 2021 album, 25. “I want them to be able to consume the A side and then, Monday, get to [the] B side. When you actually put them together though, it syncs. It’s still one through 25, they still sync. But I want to start a conversation with my fans, like, ‘Alright, I like the A side, I like the B side,’ you feel what I’m saying? I intentionally wanted to start that conversation.”
