    Summer says she cried when she heard Cole’s verse on their new collab

    Summer Walker discusses how she ended up with J. Cole’s verse on her new EP, Clear 2: Soft Life, on the song “To Summer, From Cole (Audio Hug).” During a recent conversation with Yung Miami on her REVOLT series Caresha Please, Summer revealed details about the collaboration.

    “So we have a song called ‘Audio Hug,’ ” Summer Walker explained. “I had asked him to do a song… he really didn’t get time to do it. He wanted to meet and I was so fucking pregnant, that I was just like, ‘oh my God, I can’t.’ I don’t know if you seen them damn pictures, I was like 200 pounds. My ankles were… huge. It was crazy. So we didn’t meet. But, he did end up sending me something called ‘Audio Hug.’ And he was just like… It’s so sweet. I cried when I heard it. He was just like, being hella sweet and just saying that he sees all the shit that I went through and if I ever need to call him for anything… it was just cool.”

    In May, DaBaby’s Roddy Ricch-assisted single went platinum. The song was released on DaBaby’s Blame It On Baby album, which dropped in April. It took a little over a month for the song to go platinum, which is impressive.

    Summer Walker launches her own record label

    Under the imprint of Interscope records, Summer Walker has launched her own record label, Ghetto Earth Records. With a fresh label up and running, she has already signed her first act.

    “I came up with Ghetto Earth because earth is ghetto,” Summer said in a statement. “I don’t wanna be controlling over my artist’s music. I want them to be fully involved in everything they put out. I’m just here to support and help them get to wherever it is they’re trying to go in life.” 

    NO1-NOAH is the first artist signed to the label. In the midst of quarantine, Summer unleashed her EP, Life On Earth and it was the world’s introduction to N01-NOAH, as he was featured on two tracks.

    “I’m excited to show people my music and what I have to offer,” said NO1. “I feel like being on Summer’s team, Ghetto Earth Records, is the right home for me to be as creative as possible as an artist. She’s really understanding of what a true artist is, as she is one herself. I’m free to create here, and it’s always a great feeling as an artist to be able to make music for a team that gets the sound that you’re trying to create.”

    In the fall of 2019, Summer Walker released her debut album, Over It. She already had a solid fanbase moving into the release of the album, and the music proved why that was. Talent met work ethic, as her album went platinum in February.

    A little over halfway through 2020, Summer Walker is delivering more music, with the release of her 5-track EP, Life On Earth. The extended play features NO1-NOAH and PARTYNEXTDOOR.
