Fat Joe Responds to Explosive Lawsuit from Ex-Hypeman: “You’ve Messed With the Wrong One”

Bronx rapper denies claims of abuse, exploitation, and underage misconduct in fiery social media statement

Fat Joe has fiercely denied allegations made by his former hypeman Terrance “T.A.” Dixon, who filed a bombshell lawsuit accusing the rapper of a range of serious offenses — including coercive labor exploitation, financial fraud, sexual misconduct, and psychological abuse.

In his first public response, Fat Joe took to social media with a lengthy statement defending himself and condemning both Dixon and his attorney, Tyrone Blackburn.
“I’ve been tested the last few months — I’ve lost my big brother, my father, my mother — and now I’m fighting against these disgusting lies,” Joe wrote. “But please know I will not break and I will NEVER back down.”

Joe went on to reflect on what he views as betrayal by people in his inner circle:
“I’ve had people steal from me, grow jealous of me, lie on me. Through it all, me and my family are the ones stuck dealing with the consequences of their bad decisions.”

The rapper also addressed the falling out with Dixon, which occurred in 2019:
“If you get fired for doing something wrong, just take the L and live with it. But instead, they plot on your downfall… They figure they can make up the most insane stories and, if they threaten you with a lawsuit, then you’ll pay and they’ll feel like they finally won.”

Fat Joe directly refuted any attempt to be extorted, stating:
“I’ve never let anyone on the streets extort me, so how would I ever let a crooked attorney and a coward ex-hype man extort me? I’m from the Bronx!”

He also took aim at Dixon’s lawyer, Tyrone Blackburn, who himself is facing legal trouble following a recent assault arrest.
“Mr. Tyrone Blackburn… we will finish you in court. The time of lawyers using their law license as a badge to extort people and destroy families with no evidence is over!! You’ve messed with the wrong one this time!!”

As the legal battle unfolds, Fat Joe appears ready to fight the accusations head-on — not just in court, but also in the court of public opinion.

Fat Joe Says He Doesn’t Understand Today’s Hip Hop

The Bronx legend admits some new rap sounds leave him feeling ‘confused’ and nostalgic for the genre’s past

Fat Joe has opened up about his confusion with today’s Hip Hop, expressing that some of the sounds from younger artists leave him puzzled. In a recent interview with Complex, the Bronx legend confessed he doesn’t always relate to the current direction of rap music, especially regarding New York’s evolving scene.

“I’ve sat in traffic and heard the music… I felt like they were playing devil music right next to me,” he said. “I’m like, ‘Yo, what the f**k? That’s Hip Hop?’” While Joe made it clear that he respects the new generation, he admitted that some repetitive beats and lyrics make him feel disconnected.

He also compared the love songs of the past to today’s approach, noting how today’s love tracks often feature violent lyrics over similar beats. In contrast, in the past, artists like LL Cool J would serenade listeners with heartfelt, introspective lines.

Joe even ruled out the possibility of jumping on a “sexy drill” track, adding that he’d prefer a love song with Babyface. The veteran is sticking to his roots, while some of today’s trends aren’t resonating with him.

During an interview with Billboard on Tuesday, 7 January, the Bronx rap legend said that he was inspired to make his new album, The World Changed on Me, because of Killer Mike’s success at the 2024 Grammy Awards: He won Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance, thanks to his album Michael.

“I told him: he’s the guy who inspired me,” Joe explained. “I retired. I was gone. I had an infamous phone call with Eminem, where he was trying to talk me into not retiring: ‘Joe, we need you. You’re one of us.’

“I was super done, but I got back out because of Killer Mike. The man won that Grammy. The one thing I never got in this business is a Grammy.

“When I seen it, I called Dre. I was like, ‘Yo, it’s possible. Let’s get back in the kitchen. Let’s cook.’ And so [Mike] inspired me to come out of retirement.”

Fat Joe recounts fumbling $2m deal for being ‘tough guy’

Joe learned about the incident later in life

Fat Joe admits embracing a “tough guy” persona back in the day, but the lifestyle came at a price. Recently speaking to Forbes, the Terror Squad boss remembered losing a $2m deal for presenting a “tough guy” picture of himself.

“I was a real tough guy, Joe the Don, and I got the Terror Squad,” he explained. “And so this man, I met him many years later. He was CFO of a marketing company out of Chicago. He passed away.

“But he saw me in Miami. My wife is with me, we’re having mojitos. He said, ‘Man, let me tell you a story. I had a $2 million check for you from a beer company who said, ‘Get Fat Joe.’ This was when ‘What’s Luv?’ was number one.

He added, “He said, ‘I came to the Bronx, I came to a club where you was at. You had about 40 guys around you and I saw you with my own eyes. I had a $2 million check in my pocket.’ He said he walked past the first 10, then grabbed him. ‘The Don don’t wanna speak to nobody.’

“This is a guy in a suit looking like you. He walked around another five. ‘The Don ain’t speaking.’

“He looked at me and said, ‘Wow, I have a $2 million check and I can’t even get to this kid. I can’t put this check in his pocket. As much as the company is telling me, ‘You better close that deal.” So that’s the stuff that you block — your blessings.”
