Westside Gunn claps back at fans who’re surprised that Griselda just earned their first gold plaque

The Griselda earns their first gold certification

The Griselda earned their first gold certification this week after Benny The Butcher and J. Cole’s “Johny P’s Caddy” sold over 500K units in the US, but many fans were surprised that this is their first ever RIAA palque. Westside Boogie came to the group’s defense via Twitter on Thursday (April 13), urging fans to show tangible support by streaming their music, however, he did point out that he “never did it for” numbers.

“It’s krazy how everybody keep saying “Damn that’s y’all first gold plaque” YEA NIGGA go Fuckin play our shit allday like the suckas play that bs &run the #s up that just shows u how much support y’all really could be doing more 🤷🏽‍♂️ but I never did it for that so I still love u all,” Westside Gunn wrote.

Earlier on, Benny The Butcher had also shared his reaction to the gold plaque on Twitter, writing: “No hook no trap beat and off an independent label if I’m not top three in yall beloved boom bap genre then who is 🤷🏾 Griselda is the illest.”

De La Soul praises Griselda for maintaining the New York rap style

De La Soul are happy with what Griselda are doing

Legendary group De La Soul thinks Griselda are doing their best to stay original with the New York rap style. Recently speaking to TV host Ari Melber, the group revealed that Griselda are some of their favorites right now.

“Who I’m paying attention to in this very moment right now is Griselda,” La Soul member Maseo revealed. “They are a group that actually has kind of brought it back home, you know, to New York, in my opinion. New York has lost its way for some time, we talked about mainstream. People have embodied other styles of music just to “sell records” instead of just focusing on being artistic.”

He continued, “When you listen to the essence of it, even down to us, you hear the B-Boy. You hear the B-Boy element in it all. And you can tell they grew up on them old school tapes, of Grandmaster Caz.”

Benny claims Griselda is the “standard” for rappers

Benny The Butcher isn’t contented with the appreciation the Griselda receives from rappers. Addressing his fans on Instagram live earlier this week, Benny said the Bufallo group, which he is a member of along with Conway The Machine and Westside Gunn, deserves credit for inspiring rappers and making them believe “they could do it.”

“I just want to make a public service announcement real quick,” Benny began while crushing some weed for a roll up. “These n-ggas been putting out tapes, and a lot of these n-ggas been doing their shit, but Griselda is still the standard. We inspire these n-ggas. We made these n-ggas believe they can build this shit. These n-ggas ain’t think they could do it.”

He continued, “these n-ggas gave up. You telling them, ‘Nah, fight.’ Ain’t nothing wrong with inspiring n-ggas. I’m just saying y’all, back to Griselda being the standard. Griselda is the fucking standard. I don’t be hearing thank you from these n-ggas. These n-ggas be saying everything, but fucking thank you. I wanna start hearing thank you’s from these n-ggas man.”

Conway The Machine is dropping an album at the end of the month

Conway Machine announces new album is coming, end of January

Griselda Records is filled with some of the hardest working rappers in the game. Built from the cloth of quantity and quality, the guys still show they’re going to put in more work, including Conway The Machine, who announced he’s dropping an album at the end of the month.

Conway dropped his official debut album From King to a God on September 11th of last year. He turned around and added a deluxe on December 18th.

Griselda and BSF’s ‘Conflicted’ soundtrack was dropped off on January 8th. The soundtrack didn’t feature Conway, leaving fans to believe he may be leaving Griselda. Conway said he’s not on the soundtrack or the film because he couldn’t act, but his tweets blurred the lines on whether he’d be leaving the label and crew in the near future. “I have one more album left,” Conway said on Twitter, to someone trying to confirm the rumor.

It looks like we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, his new album is dropping at the end of the month.
