Cam’ron shares how much he spent on ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast before signing deal worth millions

Cam & Mase are now raking in big checks from their sports show

Cam’ron and Mase might have one of the best sports podcasts now, but that took some time and money to build. Recently speaking at Black Enterprize’s 2024 Disruptor Summit, Cam explained the strategy he & Mase used to land a deal worth millions of dollars with their show It Is What It Is.

“I did three–four episodes by myself,” Cam revealed. “I actually invited Mase to be a guest on the show and he was like, ‘Yo man, this is really dope — do you want to go half on it?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, we can go half, let’s do it.’ He didn’t even have to put any money up, but he was willing to. I probably did four episodes, maybe five, and they offered me a million dollars and I was like, ‘No.’ And then we got to probably 10 episodes and it got up to like three million dollars, and I was like, ‘Oh, we got something here.’”

He added, “We actually did 35 episodes, so we did a deal, but I probably spent a $127,000 ’cause I just kept shooting and shooting, and Mase had this number in his head […] When it got to like six million dollars, I was like, ‘Mase we got to— it doesn’t make sense to not do the deal.’ And he had a real number in his head. He’s like, ‘Cam, we got to [wait],’ so we end up doing [a] $20 million deal.”

Cam’ron & Mase refused offer to walk out Mike Tyson to fight Jake Paul, here’s why

Cam says he was afraid of bearing blame if Tyson lost

Cam’ron and Mase share that they were offered to walk out Mike Tyson in his planned boxing match with Jake Paul, but they weren’t willing to go through with it. Cam explained that he feared getting the blame if Tyson lost. The two made the revelation on their It Is What Is podcast following Tyson’s mid-air hospitalization this week.

“They offered us the walkout with Mike Tyson,” Cam revealed. “This was before this incident and I’m like, ‘I’m not sure if I want to do that.’ Now, I’m probably not going to do it. ‘Cause I don’t want n****s blaming me for nothing when n****s don’t win. Like when Devin [Haney] lost [to Ryan Garcia], n****s said, ‘Why he wearing Balenciaga sneakers?’ […] If we walk Mike out and Mike don’t win, I don’t know if I need that type of pressure.”

Juelz Santana reacts to Mase & Cam’ron claiming he wasted his potential

Juelz agrees his career would’ve advanced way farther

Juelz Santana addresses Mase and Cam’ron’s comments that the rapper had all the potential to become a megastar but failed to live up to it. Murda and Cam made the remarks during their appearance on Million Dollaz Worth Of Game last year.

Recently speaking on The Art of Dialogue podcast, Juelz denied being lazy but admitted his career would’ve been on a higher level otherwise.

“I don’t wanna say JAY-Z because I never strived to be JAY-Z. I was always just trying to be me. I definitely coulda been way further than I am. But I don’t ever blame nobody. I blame myself for anything that held me back,” he explained.

“You could never say I was lazy. If you look at my track record in the game, I didn’t put out albums but for whatever reason, politic reasons, I didn’t put out albums, I still gave hella music.”

Mase discusses hanging up the mic at his peak – ‘It’s destiny’

Mase doesn’t regret quitting rap at his highest

Mase reveals that he doesn’t regret quitting rap when his career had just peaked. Recently speaking on It Is What It Is, the rapper-turn-pastor-turn-sports podcaster explained that stepping out of the booth kept him away from problems that other Bad Boy artists later ran into their lives.

“Everything now that we see playing out was all the things I escaped — the car, the Shyne, the Loon, Puff Daddy, the Craig Mack, the Biggie Smalls,” Mase explained. “So even though I made those decisions and it cost me money, that’s why I got with Killa and they gave me the money back. I didn’t lose no money.

“See, that’s why it’s destiny,” he added. “You asked me the right question, we at the right place. This is how it’s meant to go, man.”

  • Biggie reportedly once offered ‘broke’ Mase ghostwriting deal for Lil Cease to help with his financial woes

Biggie reportedly once offered ‘broke’ Mase ghostwriting deal for Lil Cease to help with his financial woes

Biggie allegedly came for Mase’s aid

Biggie allegedly once offered Mase, who was “broke” at the time, a deal to write Lil Cease’s “Crush on You” so that he could settle his financial problems. Lance “Un” Rivera, who was Biggie’s business partner at the time, recently sat down with VladTV where he made the revelation.

“Puff signed Ma$e so can ya imagine what kind of contract Ma$e got? Because B.I.G. just came off that same contract,” Un explained. “The LOX all of them came off the same contracts. So B.I.G. rapping with Ma$e on the 112 [‘Only You’] remix, Ma$e is broke.

“So B.I.G. says, ‘Un, give Ma$e a check and he’s gonna write for Cease.’ Ma$e comes back with a record called ‘Crush On You’ for Lil Cease’s album…I think we paid him $7,500 a record and he made six records. He comes back with ‘Crush On You’ and there’s three verses with Lil Cease on there.”

He added: “The original album that we shipped Kim wasn’t even on ‘Crush On You.’ It was all Cease for three verses and B.I.G. is doing the chorus. A million albums without Kim and then Kim rapped on the record. She wrote her own verses and B.I.G. said, ‘Come up with an idea for the video.’”

Jim Jones says he doesn’t care about Mase – ‘Tell Mase go say some prayers’

Jones isn’t interested in talking about Mase

It looks like Jim Jones doesn’t have any plans to bury the hatchets with Mase like his Dipset comrade Cam’ron did. While talking about making a Dipset biopic during a recent sit-down at The Breakfast Club, Jim was asked about Mase to which he replied with contempt.

“I don’t care about Mase,” Capo declared. “I don’t care for Mase too much. Tell Mase go say some prayers.”

Jim Jones’ fellow Dipset member Cam’ron had been feuding with Mase for years until they settled their differences in 2022.

Mase responds to Diddy saying he owes him $3 million: “Everything is in your mother’s name”

Mase goes off on Diddy over $3 million debt claims

Harlem rapper Mase reacts to Diddy’s claims on The Breakfast Club this week that the “Feel So Good” rapper owes him $3 million and that he has receipts for evidence. On Wednesday (October 5), an angry Mase shared a clip on Instagram saying Puff’s mother is the one with receipts since everything’s under her name.

“How dare this n-gga talking about he want receipts,” Mase ranted. “Let’s start with your mother, n-gga. Your mother got the receipts, n-gga. Everything is in your mother’s name. That’s the one who’s got the receipts, n-gga.”

The rapper also noted that Bad Boy artists The Notorious B.I.G., Craig Mack, and Black Rob, can’t provide receipts since they’re deceased. He added that Puff has silenced other signees he allegedly stole from by legal means.

“You need more proof, n-gga? Big ain’t here so Big can’t give you no receipts, he dead,” he continued. “Craig Mack can’t give you receipts, he dead. What are you talking about? Who else? Black Rob can’t give you receipts, he dead.

“And everybody else you made sign paperwork so they can’t talk about what I’m talking about. I’m the only one with the guts! I’m not signing, n-gga, ’cause I don’t need the money. All money ain’t good money — remember that.”

Fat Joe explains how Big L ruined his relationship with Mase

Fat Joe remembers Big L involving him in a disagreement with Mase

Fat Joe recently sat for an interview with Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin’ podcast where he recalled an incident at New York venue The Tunnel that saw the late Big L hurt his friendship with Mase.

“One time I got set up. Rest in peace Big L, [he] comes up to me in The Tunnel and he’s like ‘Yo, Crack, come bring your n-ggas, I got some beef,” Joe recounted. “So we come — Big L’s our brother, you know Diggin’ in the Crates — and when I come up, it’s fucking Ma$e. He’s arguing with Ma$e, they from the same block!

“I’m like, ‘I was hanging out with Ma$e the night before at Puffy’s studio!’ Ma$e was looking at me like I was the greatest snake ever lived. He’s like, ‘For real?’ I’m sitting there and, you know, L is my crew so L was like, ‘We will fuck you up right now, we don’t give a fuck, it’s whatever.”

Joe went on to remember L asking him, “Right, Joe?” Before Joe nodded his head. “I don’t think Ma$e ever trusted me again in my life after that,” he added. “That shit was foul, man.”
