  • SiR and D Smoke are brothers

SiR and D Smoke are brothers

When Englewood’s D Smoke won Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow, not everybody knew he was the brother of TDE’s SiR. Since then, the brothers have collaborated and aside from the obvious resemblance, the relationship has been publicized everywhere from local LA news to Oprah. Its apparent talent runs in the family.

    Brothers with History

They’ve worked and performed together at the Soul Train Awards in 2019. This past May, they collaborated on the song “Let Go” and before that on “Lights On” from D Smoke’s debut album Black Habits, which dropped back in February of this year.

SiR Drops New Video for Single, “New Sky”

Everything can be forgotten at the beach right? SiR thinks so.

SiR drops a video for hist latest single from his album Chasing Summer, “New Sky” featuring Kadhja Bonet. The song revolves around a bad breakup and trying to escape from the pain. The video starts off at a beach filled with beautiful women. But everything is not what it seems. It’s revealed the beach is not actually a beach, just a green-screen background. Which goes perfectly with the song’s theme of trying to seem “okay”. Eventually SiR makes his way to the airport, escaping to another destination.

SiR continues to run full steam ahead with those late-night, thought-invoking vibes in his newest album, Chasing Summer

In an interview with DJBooth, SiR claims that “summer is about freedom… That’s the overall theme of the album, being free and being able to live how you live.” He adds that his life has been “a happy rollercoaster” and by looking at his work, it seems this rollercoaster is only ascending.

Earlier this month, we were given a taste of what to expect when SiR dropped “Hair Down” featuring Kendrick Lamar.

It seems SiR has at least one song everyone can relate to. Including a subtle tribute to animated television series “King of the Hill” in the song titled “John Redcorn,” which breaks down the sorrow that comes from loving someone who is in a relationship.

Chasing Summer only strengthens Top Dawg Entertainment’s R&B versatility. Features from Jill Scott, Zacari, Sabrina Claudio, Kadhja Bonef and Smino (who also has a feature on recent fan-favorites “1993” and “Sacrifices” from Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers IIIcollaborate to top of the summer just right.
