Kanye West did it again. After beefing on wax for years, J Prince managed to get Kanye “Ye” West and Aubrey “Drake” Graham to let bygones be bygones and co-headline the #FreeHoover concert at LA’s Colosseum.
Ye and Drake walked out after a medley of rap hits turned into gospel hymns by the Sunday Service Choir and let’s just say the fog juice budget wasn’t spared. Ye then took the stage for his one-hour set, where he performed classics like “Jesus Walks,” “Flashing Lights,” and a rendition of Drake’s “Better Find Your Love” from the Toronto rap star’s debut album Thank Me Later.
Before Kanye West dipped, he asked his wife (who filed for divorce) Kim Kardashian aka Kimberly, to come back. Drake then came out during “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and his signature “six” ad-lib let the crowd know what time it was. Once Ye left the stage, Drake did a rendition of DONDA‘s “24” and then turned up with hits of his own including “God’s Plan” and others. Including his first live performance of “Girls Like Girls” from Certified Lover Boy.
The concert was an effort by Ye and Drake to raise funds for Larry Hoover, a Chicago gang chief that’s been portrayed as a political prisoner in recent years. Merch for the show had #FREEHOOVER and other slogans calling for his release. Shout-outs to the recently passed Virgil Abloh were plentiful and this night was one for the history books. Kanye West and Drake can be watched on Amazon Prime for the replay.
