Fif’ had no chills on the OG version of “Back Down”
To mark the 20th anniversary of 50 Cent‘s chartbuster album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Diverse Mentality dropped off a new documentary where one of the producers of the 2003 project Sha Money XL revealed that Fif’ went after the likes of Jay-Z, Nas and Cam’ron in the original version of the track “Back Down,” but the final cut saw him solely targeting Ja Rule.
“That record is his traditional patterns of ‘How to Rob,’ your ‘Life’s on the Line,’ ‘Ghetto Quran,’” Sha explained. “Certain names is being mentioned, certain nerves being pinched.”
He added that once Dr. Dre heard the original version, he filtered it and had 50 redo the record.
“Get to L.A. and played it, Dre put the filter on him, like, ‘Hold up, bro. Hold up, bro. Nah, bro. You going too far, man,’” he continued. “And we had to re-record that shit. I still got the version where he’s spazzing, man.”
