Before Talib Kweli Greene was famously known as just Talib Kweli, his first rap name was Talib Kweli. Talib Kweli was born in Brooklyn, New York, and in 1997, he started his career under the name Genesis. “My first rap name was Genesis and I had a song called ‘Word is Flesh'” Talib Kweli would reveal during his show The People’s Party while interviewing Isaiah Rashad.
Early in his career, he went to Cincinnati to work with a group called Mood, where he would feature on five songs on their album titled Doom, he would then come back to New York and form a group called ‘Black Star’ with Mos Def back in 1998. With the help of Hi-Tek, they released their only album to date, Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star in 1998.
Since then Talib Kweli has worked with Kanye West, Just Blaze, Pharrell Williams, and many more.
