Suspect’s defence argues wide media coverage might affect jurors’ judgement

Young Dolph’s murder suspect Justin Johnson claims he is weary of jurors being selected from within Memphis. According to Associated Press, Luke Evans presented a filing to Judge Jennifer J. Mitchell on Friday (February 2), arguing that the extensive press surrounding the case might have an effect on the jurors’ decisions.

“The victim in the case is beloved here,” Evans stated, adding that Johnson and his co-defendant Cornelius Smith have received threats of facing deadly violence in prison. Evans explained that the threats are “seeking vengeance, not justice.”

Judge Mitchell has yet to deliver a ruling.
