Kendrick Lamar laid down an unforgettable stage show at Top Dawg Entertainment’s Christmas concert and toy drive on Thursday (December 12), his very first live performance since the release of his latest album, GNX.
The Grammy award-winner ended his two-song set with ‘Humble,’ which was from the 2017 album DAMN. He went straight into another fan-favorite song from GNX, “Squabble Up,” making it the song’s very first live performance, so fans were sure to remember that part of the night.
The whole performance was dynamic and heartwarming, as Lamar spent most of his time dancing with the crowd’s children, creating a very moving and uplifting atmosphere.
It was undoubtedly jam-packed with great performances, including that of TDE members SZA, Isaiah Rashad, SiR, Doechii, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Zacari, and Ray Vaughn. The surprise special guest was GloRilla whose hit “TGIF” has recently been named Best Song of the Year by Time.
It wasn’t entirely about the music, but after all, it was all about the community. Attendees brought along their unwrapped toys, clothing, or other donations meant for local children in need, as the drive benefits families in the Nickerson Gardens public housing projects where TDE founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and Jay Rock are natives.
Giving back and celebrating the good vibes for two days would be TDE’s continued pledge to its roots- the magic of music continues to unite.
