Trey Songz is challenging an $11 million judgment in a battery lawsuit filed by cop over a 2021 hotel incident
Trey Songz is contesting a default judgment of over $11 million against him, issued after he failed to respond to a battery lawsuit from Las Vegas. Tyrelle Dunn, a police officer, filed the case in 2023 alleging that the singer assaulted Dunn’s wife at the Cosmopolitan hotel in November 2021. Dunn asserts that his wife was taken to Songz’s room, assaulted, and deprived of her cell phone. When Dunn heard her cries for help and intervened, he was attacked as well resulting in severe injuries that kept him out of work for a month.
A default judgment of $11,277,961.37 against Songz was entered on October 10 after he failed to respond to the suit. However, newly acquired court papers obtained by InTouch Weekly reveal that Songz’s team argues that he was never properly served notice of the lawsuit and learned of it only in November of 2024 when fans reached him through social media after the judgment had been made.
Songz’s attorneys are now seeking to have the judgment vacated, arguing that he is entitled to a day in court. Their argument includes a police investigation that found no wrongdoing on Songz’s part.
