Trey Songz Scores Legal Win, $11 Million Default Judgment Set Aside

Trey avoids hefty damages, but the legal battle with a Vegas officer is far from over

Trey Songz is no longer on the hook for a default judgment of over $11 million after failing to respond to a battery lawsuit filed by a Las Vegas police officer, but his legal troubles aren’t over. The court recently sided with Songz’s argument that he was never properly served the lawsuit papers.

In a ruling on January 17, Clark County District Court Judge Jacob Reynolds granted Songz’s legal team 30 days to reply to the original lawsuit. Tyrelle Dunn, the officer suing Songz, claims that his wife was assaulted at The Cosmopolitan hotel in November 2021 by the singer’s security team. Dunn alleges he was then attacked when he tried to intervene, resulting in significant injuries and missed work.

Though the initial default judgment of $11,277,961.37 was entered in October, Songz’s team contested the ruling, asserting that proper service was never made. They argued that Songz only learned of the lawsuit after seeing social media messages in late November. Dunn’s attorney has vowed to continue pursuing the case and plans to involve the security team in future proceedings.
