Drive-By Shooting Leaves 4 Dead, 14 Injured as Police Probe Possible Gang Involvement
What was meant to be a night of celebration for rising rapper Mello Buckzz turned into a scene of horror when a drive-by shooting outside her album release party left four people dead and 14 others injured.
The shooting occurred outside Artis Restaurant and Lounge in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. Among the victims were Buckzz’s boyfriend and a close female friend. Three others remain in critical condition as the investigation continues.
Mello Buckzz broke her silence on social media, sharing her heartbreak in a raw and emotional post: “We was having so much fun… glued to my hip everyday. I’m so fucking angry… My heart broke into so many pieces rn it’s unbelievable. Why is this happening to me?”
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson addressed the tragedy in a press conference, calling it a stark reminder of the city’s ongoing struggle with gun violence. “Shooting into a crowd is not the best of who we are,” he said. “It is unacceptable and we will not stand for that.”
CCTV footage shows a black SUV opening fire before speeding away. No suspects have been identified, but police suspect gang-related motives and are working with federal agencies to prevent potential retaliation.
