The OutKast legend talks about his creative differences with Ye and his thoughts on Drizzy leaking the track

André 3000 has opened up about his experience with Kanye West’s track “Life of the Party,” revealing that he initially wanted his verse removed from the song due to creative differences with Kanye’s vision for the track. Speaking on The New York Times’ Popcast, the OutKast legend shared that Kanye had decided to exclude any explicit language from Donda, which led to André requesting his verse be taken off the song.

“Kanye was at a point in his life where he didn’t want any curse words on the album and I said, ‘Yeah, I’m cool with it, man. I’m totally fine with no curse words. But take me off the song,’” André explained. “I had written it a certain way… but I said, ‘You have to put the dirty version out, too.’” Kanye, however, was firm in his decision to not include any curse words on the album, explaining that he had promised his daughter no explicit language would be featured on the project.

3 Stacks respected Ye’s decision and agreed to have his verse removed rather than alter it to fit the clean version. “We weren’t in agreement with how the song would come out,” he said.

The track, which was initially left off Donda, eventually gained attention when it was leaked by Drake during his feud with Kanye. André revealed that he was aware of Kanye’s disses aimed at Drake in the song before its release. “I want to clear something up: a lot of people think that Kanye took the song and put the diss part out without me knowing about it. I’d heard the diss part and me and Kanye had a conversation about it,” he said.

Reflecting on Kanye’s decision to include the diss, André expressed his reservations. “I was like, ‘Man, do you really want to do this on this type of song? It’s kinda like going and shooting up your mom’s funeral,’” he said, explaining that he didn’t feel the diss was appropriate for the track’s vibe.

Though he had no idea how Drake got ahold of the track, André admitted he was grateful for the leak. “I was like, ‘Woah!’ I actually don’t understand why he did it, but I kind of have to thank Drake for letting that song see the light of day,” he said, showing his appreciation for the song finally being heard by the public.
