3 Stacks shares his reaction to Grammy nomination

André 3000 didn’t expect that his switch from Hip Hop to “punk spiritual jazz” with his instrumental project New Blue Sun would fetch him a second Album of the Year Grammy nomination. The last and only other time the OutKast member received the nomination was 20 years ago when the duo was nominated for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

Speaking to The New York Times on Friday (November 8), André looked back and shared his thoughts about the announcement. “I was just waking up and I heard that the nominations came in,” he said. “We were trying to be nominated in some type of way for alternative jazz or ambient, possibly.

“But I was totally surprised by this. So yeah, it was super, super, super duper cool.”
