    Missy Elliot Set To Headline Governors Ball

    Governors Ball Music Festival have announced the much-anticipated line-up for their 20th edition.

    Appearing at the top of the bill is the legendary Missy Elliot who will be performing her first large-scale New York show in over a decade. As if that wasn’t enough for the audience, the diverse and impressive list of performers include Solange, H.E.R, Swae Lee, YBN Cordae and UK performers Dave and Slowthai.

    The festival will take place at Randall Island Park, NYC between June 5-7 and tickets will be available from tomorrow.

    Dave shines bright in his Tiny Desk performance

    Back in August, UK rapper Santan Dave flew to Washington DC. for a Tiny Desk Concert with NPR. After waiting on tenterhooks for months, we have blessed with the performance and it was of course worth the wait.  If you have followed Dave, or even heard a fragment of his discography you will release that he is in own league.

    Dave is a storyteller, he has to ability to resonate and connect with his audience, and his lyrics move to the point that his sound could be described as ‘musical therapy.’ The 21 year old South Londoner is wise beyond his years and a true gift to the music scene so it’s no surprise that he’s been awarded such a coveted NPR spot so early on in his career.

    BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Month has featured performance from a host of artists such as Anderson Paak, Little Simz and Mark Ronson.

    Today’s special guest was “Vossi Bop” hitmaker Stormzy who gave a special 3 track performance at London’s Maida Vale Studios – full band in tow.

    The talented musician never ceases to amaze with his dynamic live performance and continues to show why he’s at the top of the game.

    The tracks which he performed were hits “Crown” and “Sounds Of The Skeng” and a passionate cover of Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl” alongside vocalist Stalk Ashley.

    Dave scoops The Mercury Prize for “Psychodrama”

    Congratulations go out to British rapper Dave who has been awarded the coveted Mercury Prize for his outstanding debut album “Psychodrama.”

    The talented 21-year beat out tough competition from a wealth of British and Irish, including Little Simz, NAO and Slowthai.

    On their selection, the judging panel which includes artists Jorja Smith and Stormzy released a collective statement on their selection.

    “Psychodrama is the musical equivalent of a literary masterpiece: a conceptual album about Dave’s experience of growing up in South London, structured in the form of a therapy session, which takes a deeply personal story and gives it universal relevance. Psychodrama is a moving, musically sophisticated work that tackles complex themes of identity, class, relationships and politics and demands total attention from the listener. It will have lasting relevance for a generation and underlines the importance of the album as an art form, making it the perfect winner of the 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize.”

    Psychodrama” has been hailed as the “boldest and best British Rap album in a generation” and went straight to #1 on it’s release in March 2019. The award, which also comes with a £25,000 cheque is the latest in a long line of awards for the musician. Dave this year has already won 2 AIM Awards, and a GQ Award.

    If you have not already, then we would recommend you to give “Psychodrama” a listen. A courageous and exceptional debut, that we will no doubt be talking about in years to come.

    Stormzy Delivers With “Wiley Flow”

    Stormzy is back with another banger, just a few days after he dropped his video to “Sounds Of The Skeng.”

    The fiery track pays homage to British MC Wiley, who recently had a pop at the remix of “Take Me Back To London” (which Stormzy appears on) calling it “weird” for Ed Sheeran to be making grime music.

    This Friday will see the return of gritty British drama Top Boy, which will make it’s Netflix debut. The resurgence of the popular British series, currently executive produced by Drake will be accompanied by a soundtrack curated by the rapper’s record label OVO Sound.

    The soundtrack is made of music that inspires the current series and includes music from a number of artists, such as Little Simz and Dave who both appear in the new series.

    AJ Tracey announces his biggest headline show to date

    Rounding off his impressive year in spectacular fashion will be UK rapper AJ Tracey who has announced details of his biggest headline show.

    The West London performer will be coming “live and direct” from London’s prestigious Alexandra Place on Saturday November the 9th Sharing the news via social media, he said “You lot gave me the biggest year of my career so now I’m gonna give you the biggest show of my life” and in video to his announcement described his love show as “an experience.”

    AJ’s upcoming performance at the 10,400 capacity venue, follows his recent huge performances at festivals such as TRNSMT, Reading and Leeds Festival.

    The hip hop artist has been one of 2019’s biggest success stories with the release of his Top 3 self titled debut album, and the ongoing success of his standout single “Ladbroke Grove.”

    Tickets to the one-off show will be available from Friday at 10am, and to get yourself into the mood you can watch his mammoth performance of “Ladbroke Grove” from Reading and Leeds fest below.
