  • Producer Hitmaka says he will never rap again as โ€œYoung Bergโ€

Producer Hitmaka says he will never rap again as โ€œYoung Bergโ€

Producer Hitmaka says he will never rap again as โ€œYoung Bergโ€

If you arenโ€™t familiar with mega-producer Hitmaka, you may remember him as hip-hop artist, โ€œYoung Bergโ€. Nearing a decade ago, he took the transition from solo artist and songwriter to producer. Hitmaka has produced hits by several heavy hitters in the hip-hop community like A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Meek Mill, Big Sean, and Nicki Minaj. When asked about his transition from artist to mega-producer in an interview with DJBooth Hitmaka replied:

โ€œMan, Iโ€™d always been producing and writing. I just felt at a certain that people werenโ€™t receiving my records [as a lead artist] the way they were supposed to be. That was 2010, 2011. I decided to pivot and put a different name on the records. I always knew my songs were good, but what if I just flipped the switch and said itโ€™s not Yung Berg doing the songs. That was around โ€œJohnโ€ with Lil Wayne.โ€

When asked if he would ever rap again as โ€œYoung Bergโ€, the producer answered:

โ€œI would never rap again,โ€ Hitmaka tells DJBooth over the phone. โ€œI had satisfied all my ego-driven things as an artistโ€ฆ I was not just a rapper, I was really in love with music, so I had to learn how to move around in it.โ€

Navigating through the industry without having to be the recording artist, has proven successful for Hitmaka. Heโ€˜s earned several certified plaques, he has the recognition, but he doesnโ€™t have the added stress of living within the limelight of the hip-hop scene. When asked if he missed the spotlight, the producer says, โ€œFuck no!โ€. Although, Hitmaka adds, that he does enjoy heading to the studio daily.

Kid Cudi confirms โ€œKids See Ghost 2โ€ collaboration with Kanye West

A little over a year following the release of Kids See Ghosts, Kid Cudi has confirmed that part two is in the works! While chopping it up with Complex for their latest cover story, Cudi explained that Kanye West has already asked him to get back in the studio:

โ€œThere will be more Kids See Ghosts albums. Kanye already told me he wants to start working on the second one. Itโ€™s kinda weird, โ€™cause with the first album, I didnโ€™t know how serious he was about making a collab album with me. He had mentioned it, but I thought it was just a good idea he had in the moment. But then he kept bringing it up and kept having me come to his house, listen to music, and work on beats, so I was like, โ€œWow, heโ€™s really into this.โ€ We had a discussion where he said he wanted to make a spiritual album and I told him, โ€œGreat. Thatโ€™s what I do. I would love to do that, something I can sink my teeth into.โ€ So there will definitely be more.โ€

  • Tekashi 6ix9ine and Nicki Minajโ€™s platinum hit โ€œFEFEโ€โ€™s beat was intended for Drake

Tekashi 6ix9ine and Nicki Minajโ€™s platinum hit โ€œFEFEโ€โ€™s beat was intended for Drake

Tekashi 6ix9ine and Nicki Minajโ€™s โ€œFEFEโ€ collaboration was totally unpredictable yet, went triple platinum and secured a spot in the Top 5 of the Hot 100 chart. How bizarre to think that the beat couldโ€™ve possibly belonged to Drake.

โ€œI made the beat in the LA in my kitchenโ€”on my kitchen tableโ€”and I thought it was, like, an anthem for Drake,โ€ Murda told the host. โ€œI sent it to Drake, got no response. I was, like, โ€˜Alright.’โ€

Murda Beatz produced the beat with Cubeatz, and says his friend insisted that he played the record for 6ix9ine. He admitted that he wasnโ€™t a Tekashi fan but it was worth a try. The producer adds, โ€œThen he pulled up, and then thatโ€™s one of the beats he was fucking with. We made โ€˜FEFEโ€™ that night. And then Nicki really fucks with me, so then she somehow got on it โ€ฆ She felt like I was co-signing 6ix9ine so she got on the record. And that shit went huge โ€ฆ No one expected for that song to get that big.โ€ โ€œFEFEโ€ landed Tekashi 6ix9ine his first #1 spot on the Billboard on-demand streaming charts immediately following release.
