  • The green dress beside Nas on the cover of ‘Life Is Good’ was Kelis’ wedding dress

The green dress beside Nas on the cover of ‘Life Is Good’ was Kelis’ wedding dress

The green dress beside Nas on the cover of ‘Life Is Good’ was Kelis’ wedding dress

Nas released his tenth studio album “Life is Good” on July 13, 2012. The cover art featured Nas wearing a cream colored suit while draped on his lap is a green dress which belonged to his ex-wife, R&B singer, Kelis.

Nas revealed why he had the dress on his cover during his episode of VH1’s “Behind The Music,” Mr Jones said: “She took her stuff out of the house and left her green wedding dress, and that was all she left.”

    Watch from 29:00

During a 2012 interview with MTV News, Nas revealed the meaning behind the album.

“It’s been a long time; it’s been years since I released a solo studio album, so this record is everything,” he said. “This is everything that I’ve got to say, I guess you’ve got to live a little and you put that in your music, so it’s coming from my life.” Nas says.

After dodging the question for a while, Kelis opened up about her dress on the “Life is Good” cover in an interview with NME: My feelings about it are not really relevant, but you know at the end of the day Nas is an artist. And for whatever it’s worth he’s one of the greatest, and especially for what it is he does. So for me, I feel like especially for someone in hip-hop to kind of be genuine and honest, whatever the honesty is about, I think it’s awesome. So my feelings about it aren’t really necessarily valid, it’s just the fact that as an artist I can respect that he wears his feelings on his sleeve.

Kelis didn’t find it awkward at all, she respect Nas’ artistry.

The dress also made a cameo in Nas’ music video for Bye Baby.

  • Fat Joe passed on the beat for 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop”

Fat Joe passed on the beat for 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop”

Fat Joe had the beat for one of 50 Cent’s most popular song “Candy Shop,” way before 50 Cent did. Scott Storch sent Fat Joe the Candy Shop beat and he passed on it because he didn’t want to replicate his big commercial hit ‘Lean Back’.

While Fat Joe was sitting on the beat, Scott Storch called and asked, “Yo, you sure you don’t want to use it? 50 Cent called me. 50 Cent want it.” Fat Joe told Scott to go ahead and give it to 50 Cent. The beat then went to 50 Cent and Candy Shop appeared on his sophomore album, The Massacre.

In 2010, Scott Storch revealed he originally made the Candy Shop beat in the studio with Fat Joe, and he had the beat first.

“There was a beat that I did with Fat Joe, I made [it] in front of him and I was telling him, ‘This is a hit record.’ Even his wife, Lorena, she was there in the studio saying, ‘Joey, this is kind of a hot record.’ But he said, ‘No, this doesn’t sound like a hit.’ Maybe eight months later, I remember him and his wife again sitting in my studio and she was like, ‘I told you! I told you it was a hit.’” Storch told SKEE TV.

50 cent dissed Fat Joe on “Piggy Bank.”

Back in 1987, a then 10-year-old Kanye West lived in China for a year with his mother, Donda West, while she taught at Nanjing University as part of a foreign exchange program called the Fulbright Scholarship.

In a now deleted 2011 interview with Sabotage Times, Yeezy spoke about his experiences in China, saying: “I think being in China got me ready to be a celeb because, at that time, a lot of Chinese had never seen a black person. They would always come up and also stare at me, fishbowl me and everything. And that’s kind of the way it is for me right now.”

Young Thug had the ‘Barter 6’ cover photographer get nude too

Five year ago, Young Thug released his debut commercial mixtape, Barter 6. The cover art which showed Young Thug standing fully naked with a red background caused a lot of controversy at the time. According to Sandy Kim, the LA-based photographer who shot the cover photo, she had to show Young Thug her vision for him to commit to it.

“I asked him if he would be down to get naked and he was like, ‘Fuck no, I’m not getting naked, you get naked!’ Artists should totally be down to commit to the vision they’re asking for, so I got naked and then we shot it.” Sandy Kim told Complex in an April 2015 interview on Young Thug’s initial response.

Barter 6 was Sandy Kim’s first rap album cover shoot. She has since worked with Travis Scott, Childish Gambino, late Mobb Deep MC Prodigy, Kali Uchis and many more.
