    Pop Smoke’s Family Releases Statement on Rapper’s Death

    A little over a week ago, news broke of the tragic murder of Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke who was killed during a home invasion robbery in Hollywood Hills. Today his family breaks their silence with a statement regarding his death in which they thanked friends, fans, and loved ones for all their support.

    “The family of Bashar ‘Pop Smoke’ Jackson would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone for your support,” the Jackson family writes. “Every prayer, call, and act of kindness is deeply appreciated as we mourn the loss of our son, brother and friend. Brooklyn knew him as Bashar, He was educated and nurtured in Brooklyn and his rise to fame all developed from the place he proudly represented. Within the last year, his extraordinary gifts were revealed to the world: introducing Pop Smoke. Unfortunately there are no public details available regarding the murder of our loved one. We ask you to respect the responsible reporting during this crucial time. Thank you for respecting our family and the legacy of Bashar during this time.”

    They went on to reflect upon the rapper’s short-lived career in which the world came to love Pop Smoke.

    “Brooklyn knew him as Bashar. He was educated and nurtured in Brooklyn and his rise to fame all developed from the place he proudly represented. Within the last year, his extraordinary gifts were revealed to the world; introducing Pop Smoke.”

    Bashar ‘Pop Smoke’ Jackson was only 20 years old at the time of his untimely death.

    The Internet’s Syd Has a New Solo Album in the Works

    Word on the street is The Internet’s Syd has a new solo album on the way. The group made an announcement on Twitter earlier today to reveal the news.

    Back in April of last year, the group revealed the imminent release of two finished solo albums from their group members.

    The Internet has managed to create a strong buzz around the group and it’s individual members where they’ve all gotten a chance to shine on their own. In addition to Syd, Steve Lacy, Matt Martians, and Patrick Paige have also released their own respective solo projects in the past.

    Grammy-nominated singer Syd released her debut solo album, Fin, in 2017 which was regarded as one of the best R&B projects that year. She’s found much success with her group and as a solo artist that’s given her the opportunity to step into the spotlight.

    Jhene Aiko Reveals Details for Upcoming ‘Chilombo’ Album

    Jhene Aiko has been holding out on releasing a new album for her fans, but according to her the wait is more than worth it.

    Less than a month ago, the “P*ssy Fairy” singer announced the name of her upcoming album, Chilombo. Today she took to Twitter to share more details on her long-awaited album which will reportedly consist of all freestyles.

    She also revealed that the new album will be a combination of her last four projects.

    While we have yet to receive an official release date, Aiko teased a potential February release date in the video for her single “P*ssy Fairy (OTW).” This upcoming album is will follow-up her 2017 release, Trip.

    Mase Airs Diddy Out for Doing Bad Business with Artists

    Diddy called out the Recording Academy recently at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammys gala after receiving the Salute to Industry Icons Award. During his speech, he criticized the Grammys for overlooking black artists in major categories.

    Despite the valid points he made, rapper Mase took issue with Diddy not heeding to his own advice. He then called out Diddy’s bad business practices with artists in a lengthy Instagram post.

    In the post he wrote, “Your past business practices knowingly has continued purposely starved your artist and been extremely unfair to the very same artist that helped u obtain that Icon Award on the iconic Badboy label.”

    Drake and Future Release Surprise Track “Desires”

    There’s nothing better than waking up to new music from Drake and Future. After kicking off their 2020 campaign with “Life is Good,” the duo is back with another heater called “Desires.”

    The track leaked late last night making its way to streaming via SoundCloud. The song was initially teased by Future on Instagram live back in August with another snippet later surfacing as well.

    This new track all but confirms Drake and Future have been cooking in the studio. While this track isn’t confirmed to either be a throwaway or part of the duo’s highly anticipated “What a Time to be Alive” sequel, it’s safe to assume there’s more new music on the way.

    Tory Lanez and Fivio Foreign Join Forces on New Single “K Lo K”

    Brooklyn is dominating the rap game with a new Drill sound. Tory Lanez is joining the wave and putting New York rap on a bigger platform – starting with Brooklyn rapper Fivio Foreign. Nearly a month after teasing their collaboration, the duo finally drop their new drill anthem, “K Lo K.”

    They both announced their new single at the top of the year sharing clips from the presumed music video to accompany the track.

    The two previously worked together to drop the remix for Fivio Foreign’s breakout hit, “Big Drip,” late last year.

    Lil Baby Re-creates ‘Queen & Slim’ with “Catch the Sun” Visual

    Queen & Slim hit theaters in November of last year. Lil Baby, among other artists like Megan Thee Stallion, EARTHGANG and more, contributed to the film’s soundtrack. Today, the Atlanta rapper debuted the tender visual for his contribution, “Catch the Sun.”

    The Cam Busby-directed video mimics the storyline of the hit film, telling the tale of a couple on the run. He enlisted the help of his real-life girlfriend, Jayda Cheaves, as he tries to duck law enforcement while bringing her to safety.

    Lil Baby is expected to release his next album, My Turn, this year although it’s still without a release date. He kicked off 2020 releasing his single “Sum 2 Prove.”

    Wale and Bryson Tiller Share Visuals for “Love… (Her Fault)”

    After delivering one of his most thorough albums to date, Wow… That’s Crazy, Wale releases another story-like visual for “Love… (Her Fault).”

    The video for “Love… (Her Fault)” follows the story of his toxic relationship with his girlfriend that finds Bryson Tiller mixed up in the drama. The video intertwines love, drama, and comedy all in one.

    Wale called on the help of Teyana Taylor and her production company, The Aunties, to help curate the visual’s aesthetics. He wanted to make sure he gave the people what they wanted. “Let’s do it as a family,” he tweeted.

    His tweet also hinted that a video for “Break My Heart (My Fault)” is also on the way so be on the look out for that.
