R&B star says timing and uncertainty led him to RCA instead

Bryson Tiller has opened up about a major turning point in his career — choosing not to sign with Drake’s OVO Sound despite being a longtime fan of the Toronto superstar.

In a candid interview on the New Rory & Mal podcast, Tiller revealed he had every intention of joining OVO, but a lack of direct communication from Drake ultimately pushed him toward RCA Records.

“I’m being so blunt. Honest,” Tiller said. “The only reason I didn’t sign [to OVO] is just because bro didn’t hit me back one time.”

At the time, RCA was aggressively pursuing the young singer. “They was hounding me, they was flying me [out], they was trying to get me away from Drake,” he explained. Despite his admiration for Drake’s music — calling him a key part of his “musical DNA” — Tiller admitted feeling blindsided when his team locked in the RCA deal. “I was pissed about it.”

Tiller also revealed he messaged Drake before making his final decision but never got a reply. “I know he’s a super busy dude,” he added. “But I had a kid. I had to go with what was the most sure shot.”

He later reflected, “I thought signing to OVO was God’s plan. But everything just went differently.”
