Coke La Rock was born on April 24, 1955, in the Bronx. He was an original member of DJ Kool Herc‘s Herculoids and he created the phrase “You rock and you don’t stop” during the early days of rap. He was at the first party Herc threw for his sister Cindy in the Sedgewick Houses.

By 1977, he and the Herculoids began to lose popularity to other acts like The Cold Crush and The Furious Five. He became a father and when Herc got stabbed, he decided to step away from the music and culture he helped start.
