Kendirck Lamar’s crown thorn was made in 10 months

Kendrick Lamar first appeared to be wearing his diamond crown thorn on the cover art for Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Last week, the rapper was seen wearing the same crown at Louis Vuitton Fashion Show, Glastonbury, and the Pyramid Stage.

It appears that it took months of work to craft the piece. According to Vogue, it took over 1,300 hours in 10 months to design the headpiece. It is braced with 8,000 cobblestone micro pavé diamonds adding up to more than 137 carats, and a weight of around 200g. The crown was designed by Tiffany & Co. in collaboration with Kendrick, and PgLang co-founder Dave Free.

According to Free, “The crown is a godly representation of hood philosophies told from a digestible youthful lens.”

“Kendrick Lamar represents the artistry, risk-taking creativity and relentless innovation that has also defined Tiffany & Co. for nearly two centuries,” explains Alexandre Arnault, executive vice president, product and communication, Tiffany & Co. “We are proud and incredibly excited to work with a visionary like Kendrick in realizing his vision for the crown.”
