JAY-Z’s Team Sues Kansas City Police and Local Government
The branch of JAY-Z’s charitable work called Team Roc has stepped into legal action against the Kansas City Kansas Police Department and its administration accusing the targeted agencies of preventing the accomplishment of their investigation about the cases of wrongful convictions.
On Tuesday, November 19, legal documents were filed explaining that KCKPD has ignored the request submitted under the Kansas Open Records Act for other public records made in November 2023, Fox 4 KC reported. In the appeal, the TTD claimed that after repaying $2,200 in fees, the department has refused to release certain documents that are critical to the claims of police misconduct and abuse. Out of 225 documents provided, most Team Roc says were irrelevant, simply filled with employee and training documents.
“Kansas City residents have suffered enormously as a result of KCKPD abuses. Some have been framed for crimes they did not commit; some have been coerced into providing false testimony; some have been sexually assaulted; some have endured brutal beatings; and some have even been killed. Rather than promoting a culture of transparency and accountability, the KCKPD has a long history of turning a blind eye to, at best, and even covering up, if not worse, abusive and/or corrupt conduct by its officers.”
