Kai Initially Mistakes Lawsuit for Personal Legal Trouble, Clarifies His Involvement
Kai Cenat was left surprised and confused after discovering his name in Drake’s recent defamation lawsuit against his longtime record label, Universal Music Group (UMG). The lawsuit, which was filed over the copyright removal of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” alleges that UMG allowed the song’s defamatory content to spread across platforms like YouTube and Twitch.
During a live Twitch stream, Cenat read through the lawsuit and initially thought he was being sued by Drake. “Wait, why am I in this shit?! Wait, hold on! I’m getting sued?!” he exclaimed in disbelief. His confusion stemmed from his previous interactions with Drake, including a message from the artist in May alerting him to the release of his diss song, “Family Matters.”
However, after reading further, Cenat realized he wasn’t personally being sued. “Oh, I’m good! I’m alright!” he reassured his viewers. “So he’s just using us as examples of spreading misinformation type shit?”
Cenat also denied rumors that he and other streamers were paid by UMG to react to “Not Like Us,” stressing that his reactions were organic and monetized. The lawsuit, which accuses UMG of damaging Drake’s reputation and inciting real-life violence, highlights the legal consequences of the song’s content being shared widely.
