Kendrick Lamar has plenty of material in the vault

Kendrick Lamar is one of the most skilled rappers of our generation. The quality of the music he releases is outstanding. One tactic K-Dot uses is taking his time to craft his projects.

TDE’s engineer MixedByAli was recently in an interview with Kevin Durant and his co-host Eddie Gonzalez on the latest episode of ‘The ETCs with Kevin Durant’ podcast. The engineer who has worked with Lamar since 2012’s ‘Good Kid M. A. A. D City’ talked about the vast music material Kendrick filters out while putting albums together.

“For Kendrick alone, let me say I think we could put together like six albums,” he said at the 34th minute of the podcast before continuing “Everyone’s the same way, it’s all about just understanding that you could always do something better. It’s having that mindset to just strive for the best possible version of you. That’s Kendrick’s whole mind state, always striving to do better. Whether it’s recording a new verse, you know he would record a whole song and get one ad-lib back a month later because he don’t like how he breathed the ad-lib, y’know?”

This news shouldn’t come as a surprise as such. In a 2017 interview with Billboard, the ‘Humble’ rapper did reveal that he made three to four versions of the aforementioned 2012 classic album before it was released.

In another recent interview with i-D, Kendrick also made it clear that he doesn’t drop albums until he finds a new sound that will be refreshing. For an artist to craft a fresh sound, it’s mandatory for them to keep making as much music as possible.

Kendrick Lamar is gearing up to drop his next album since 2017’s Damn. The release date hasn’t been revealed yet but a lot of rumors have been circulating that the Compton lyricist will drop soon. Stay tuned for more Kendrick Lamar updates.
