Kendrick Lamar achieves 16x Platinum rap hit, matching Drake’s milestone
Kendrick Lamar’s achievement matches that of Drake in that he also has a rap song with the most certifications as conferred by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), thanks to his appearance on Travis Scott’s 2016 smash “Goosebumps.”
The track became certified 16x platinum on Monday (November 25), making this his first time achieving it with a 2016 feature alongside Travis Scott, “Goosebumps,” which joins Drake’s hit “God’s Plan” in 2018 as one of only two rap songs to have attained this milestone of over 16 million units sold.
This latest development comes in the context of Drake filing two “pre-action” petitions against Universal Music Group (UMG). These are reports drawn from two “pre-action” petitions that deal primarily with going after Kendrick over the diss track “Not Like Us,” by obtaining information from the rapper and depositions in preparation for possible lawsuits. But, legally, these don’t count as lawsuits and don’t mean anything more than a precursor to them since Drake can choose to stop after asking for further information.
