Drake told Durk he wanted eight more bars on the song, but was on a time crunch during the 2020 pandemic wave
Criticism floated around the internet when Lil Durk’s verse on Drake’s “Laugh Now Cry Later” hit streaming platforms. However, it wasn’t because he had a bad verse, but very much due to the fact that it wasn’t lengthy.
During the FULL SEND PODCAST, Durk, 29, breaks down why his verse was so short. He stated the entire process of the song happened rather quickly because of the pandemic and studio restrictions.

“I ain’t gonna lie, I need it tonight,” Durk said Drake told him during a facetime call, as he played the song for him. “It was the beginning of the pandemic so it was like the studio closing down early… He on a time schedule. He was like ‘I need it back right now. I did some quick ass s**t. I left the studio, and he called me back, like, ‘man this s**t hard, put eight more bars on it. Ima drop it ASAP. I was telling him like, ‘the studio closed cause of the pandemic.”
Durk said, “that was like the best eight bars I did, ever in my life.”
During the first week of November, the song shot to the top of the Billboard charts to take the number one spot.
