Lil Wayne is sued by former manager; Wayne sold his masters
Lil Wayne is having his moment right now having dropped the third installment of his ‘No Ceilings’ mixtape series. He was also celebrating his daughter Reginae Carter’s birthday recently. Unfortunately, the skilled lyricist is facing yet another legal hurdle.
Tunechi is being sued by his former manager for $20 million. TMZ has learned through court documents that Ronald Sweeney, Wayne’s ex-manager, claims that he was hired by the legendary rapper to help renegotiate his contract with Cash Money in 2005. If you can recall Weezy had a long-time misunderstanding with Birdman that ended in 2018.
Sweeney claims that once the legal battle was settled two years ago, he only received a fraction of his financial share. In the suit filed by attorney Ed McPherson, Sweeney also says that in May 2018, the ‘Lollipop’ rapper asked him to sack his manager & childhood friend Cortez Bryant, over a legal dispute involving Drake and Cash Money.
According to Ronald Sweeney’s claims, Wayne promised to raise his commission from 10% to 17%. He then says that Cortez and Mack Maine conspired to turn Wayne against him (Sweeney), of which he alleges that it worked. Wayne reportedly fired him in September of that year.
In June 2020, Weezy allegedly sold his masters to Universal Music Group for over $100 mill. Sweeney thinks Wayne should pay him his dues. Lil Wayne’s camp is yet to issue a response regarding the suit. Keep checking in on Daily Rap Facts for more details as soon as they emerge.
