Madlib and Doom’s album marks 20 years
Madlib and MF Doom’s collab album Madvillainy was released 20 years ago and to mark the anniversary on Sunday (March 24), the former hopped on Instagram to pay homage to the project.
The producer posted a clip on Instagram lifted from “All Caps” video that included the words, “Madvillainy20.RIPMFDOOM.” In the caption, The Beat Konducta wrote, “20 years. RIP to the Villain.”
Peanut Butter Wolf, the founder of Stones Throw Records to which the album was released under, slid into the comments of Complex Music’s Instagram post to lay down some facts surrounding the project.
“This was an album where Madlib chose to record the beats in my basement that we called The Bomb Shelter (it was a literally a concrete bomb shelter),” Peanut Butter wrote.
“DOOM recorded his vocals in my bedroom down the hall where we also had @ecoleye do a photo shoot that became the album cover.”
