Justine Skye shows why she is a rising superstar in the R&B game with her new ‘Bare With Me’ EP

Justine Skye has been one of the most intriguing R&B acts to become virally popular in the last couple of years. Her overall sound and style is very modern and Neo-R&B(not sounding too different from artists like Frank Ocean or Jhene Aiko), but her voice is so retro. Her voice reminds me of a lot of the music of this genre that you would hear in the early 2000s; this vocal style is delightfully out of place in this day and age.

While her voice is reminiscent of R&B music from a different time, the instrumentals that she uses are so modern, sometimes even futuristic. She combines the popular sounds of today such as trap, reggaeton, and electro-pop all into one, creating an especially unique sound because her voice is so cool and different. It is pretty tough to do so, but if I had to pick favorite songs from this EP, it would probably be ‘Maybe’ and ‘Bulletproof.’ They both really exemplify that modern yet nostalgic feel Justine excels at. Check these tracks out and the rest of the EP below!

  • Stormzy teases new release

    Stormzy teases new release

It’s been a quite the year in music for UK superstar Stormzy. The grime heavyweight dropped his PLATINUM comeback single “Vossi Bop” in April before his historical Glastonbury headline set just a few months later.

The star also dropped the heartfelt “Crown” as the second single from his upcoming album, and featured on Ed Sheeran‘s “Take Me Back To London.”

The hitmaker, seems to be teasing something new in his latest Instagram post is anything to go by.

The instagram post has now been deleted*

It’s easy to mistake Stormzy, as some sort of amateur boxer in the picture above, and as the caption reads, #SoundsOfTheSkeng is coming on the 6th September.

Whether it be a single, an album, a visual of some sort is anybody’s guess. Fans have even speculated, that what’s coming is a dig at British Boxer Anthony Joshua, was just photographed working with his ex girlfriend Maya Jama.

  • A$AP Rocky and his cohorts rob a bank in the music video for his new single, “Babushka Boi”

A$AP Rocky and his cohorts rob a bank in the music video for his new single, “Babushka Boi”

A$AP Rocky did not take much time to rest from his jail time in Sweden before he decided to release new music. I wonder if he had already planned to release this song before his arrest or if that situation accelerated his decision to release it. Anyway, it is always good to have new music from Rocky. ‘Babushka Boi’ is the first single off of A$AP Rocky’s upcoming unnamed album. The instrumental for this song is so hard-hitting and tough; the bass heavy trap beat and mumbled ad-libs in the background will really catch anyone’s attention.

The lyrical content of the song, as well as the title, refers to the head-wrap that A$AP Rocky started wearing last year to cover up a scar on his face. Most people thought he was making a fashion statement, but his Gucci babushkas did have a functionality. The music video for this track is something y’all definitely need to see. With everyone in the video dressed up like characters from the 90’s movie Dick Tracy, Rocky, along with Schoolboy Q and A$AP Nast, performs a comical bank heist. One of my favorite things about the video is the cops who are chasing Rocky and crew look like actual pigs! Check out the awesome video for A$AP Rocky’s ‘Babushka Boi’ below!

  • The Charts: Young Thug is having ‘So Much Fun’ at number 1

The Charts: Young Thug is having ‘So Much Fun’ at number 1

    Young Thug's 'So Much Fun'
    • Propelled by almost 168 million streams, Young Thug‘s So Much Fun debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This is Thug’s first album to top the charts, and with 131,000 units sold, it is his biggest first week ever.
    • Over half of the album’s songs appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, led by “The London” featuring J. Cole and Travis Scott. The song was released earlier this year and peaked at #12. “Hot” featuring Gunna and “Bad Bad Bad” featuring Lil Baby both debuted in the top 50.
    • Young Thug also dominated the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, with six songs in the top 25. He is also featured on Post Malone‘s hit “Goodbyes,” which is #6 on this chart.
Quality Control's Control the Streets, Vol. 2
    • Atlanta label Quality Control saw its second compilation album, Control The Streets, Vol. 2, debut at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart. Led by Migos, the label has seen a lot of its artists explode onto the scene in the two years since it last dropped a compilation album. This includes Lil Baby becoming a household name in the hip-hop community and the City Girls releasing their smash hit “Act Up.” Riding this momentum, the album sold 63,000 units the first week.
    • The biggest song on the album, “Baby,” jumped ten spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart to reach a new peak at #24. Led by QC artist Lil Baby and featuring Da Baby, the song has charted every week since it was released as the lead single. It also has benefited from its Scarface inspired music video, which currently has over 18 million views on YouTube.
Lizzo, A$AP Ferg, Lil Tecca, Drake and Swae Lee
    • Lizzo earned her first #1 song on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as “Truth Hurts” climbed one spot this week. She also reached a new peak on the Artist 100 chart, sitting at #4 and leading all other hip-hop artists.
    • A$AP Ferg’s Floor Seats sold 12,000 units in its first week, debuting at #50 on the Billboard 200. While some may consider this a disappointing first week, it is still a solid number considering Floor Seats is a 9 track EP that was released with very little promotion.
    • Lil Tecca’s “Ransom” continued its rise on the charts, this week reaching the #5 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time. It was also revealed by Spotify that “Ransom” is the most streamed song this summer, surprising many fans by beating out Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road.”
    • Swae Lee and Drake‘s highly anticipated collaboration “Won’t Be Late” fell flat in its first week, debuting at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, both artists are still well represented on the chart, with a combined three songs in the top 10.
