Moses Barrett III aka Petey Pablo was born July 22, 1973, in Greenville, NC. He is most well-known for his song “Freak-a-leek” and “Raise Up” produced by Timbaland. He was popular during the crunk era circa 2001. He got his start after moving to New York after serving a 5-year bid for armed robbery. He met Black Rob and Busta Rhymes who helped him get a deal with Jive.
Rumor has it that he was rapping in a club bathroom when an A&R from Jive overheard him and signed him to a record deal. His first and second albums were his most successful, going gold. He was also featured in Ciara’s song “Goodies.” After leaving Jive sometime after 2006, he founded Carolina Music Group as his independent record label.
