Unc. Snoop loses thousands of followers amid controversy over Crypto Ball performance
Snoop Dogg is feeling the heat after his recent performance at an event celebrating Donald Trump’s inauguration, with a significant loss in social media followers. According to the New York Post, the rap icon has lost over 570,000 followers on Instagram since taking the stage at the Crypto Ball on January 17, where fellow rappers Rick Ross and Soulja Boy also performed. Snoop has also seen a drop of nearly 20,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter).
The backlash comes after Snoop posed for photos with far-right influencers and MAGA supporters at the event, prompting criticism from many of his fans. A former Barack Obama staffer even labeled him a “sellout” for performing at the pro-Trump celebration, referencing his previous condemnation of Black artists who performed at Trump’s first inauguration in 2017.
Despite the controversy, Snoop remains unshaken. In a recent Instagram video, he addressed the backlash, saying, “Y’all can’t hate enough for me, I love too much. Get your life right, stop worrying about mine.” He continued, emphasizing the importance of unity within the Black community, saying, “We gotta learn to pick each other up instead of pulling each other down.”
Snoop’s comments reflect a shift in his stance toward Trump. The rapper previously criticized the former president but later expressed gratitude for Trump’s decision to pardon Death Row co-founder Michael “Harry O” Harris in 2021. Despite the fallout, Snoop remains one of the most followed celebrities on social media, with over 88 million followers on Instagram.
