Spotify CEO says it’s up to Ye’s label whether to delete his music or not
In the wake of major companies abandoning business relations with Kanye West, Spotify denounces the rapper’s anti-Jewish statements but will not remove his recorded works from the platform.
While speaking to Reuters, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek condemned Ye’s “just awful comments” but explained that the company has no power to remove his music, though his label does.
“It’s really just his music, and his music doesn’t violate our policy,” Ek stated, before adding, “It’s up to his label, if they want to take action or not.”
Streaming services have been under pressure including from entrepreneur Ari Emmanuel to drop Ye from their business deals. Ye’s music, which entails an acclaimed catalog, can still be found on Apple Music and YouTube.
