SZA’s Past with Drake Gets Grilled by Keke Palmer on ‘Hot Ones’
SZA was put on the spot during a Hot Ones interview promoting her film One of Them Days, where her co-star Keke Palmer didn’t hesitate to ask a bold question about SZA’s past fling with Drake. Keke asked, “Is Drake a good kisser?” referring to their brief romance in the late 2000s.
SZA, laughing but caught off guard, replied, “That’s why I said ‘fuck you’ in advance. I knew you were going to do something that was so…” After a moment of hesitation, she added, “We were children! We were children! 2009? We were children. Real shit.”
The question was a nod to a 2020 lyric from Drake’s “Mr. Right Now,” where he revealed he dated SZA back in 2008. This revelation sparked a social media storm, especially given that SZA could have been underage at the time. However, SZA clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that the relationship happened in 2009 and that she was over 18. She also emphasized that the relationship was innocent and playful, with both very young.
While SZA described their past relationship as “youth vibes” and “childish,” both artists put the dating drama behind them by collaborating on two tracks in 2023—“Slime You Out” and “Rich Baby Daddy” alongside Sexyy Red.
