Tay’s controversial record is still doing numbers

Tay K is currently serving a 55-year prison sentence on murder charges, but his memorable 2017 hit “The Race” has been on a steady rotation. Per Strapped Up, the record has now amassed 1B streams on digital platforms.

The Texas native recorded the song while on the run, and even shot the music video standing by his “wanted” poster. However, it didn’t take long for authorities to arrest him later that year. With depictive lyrics like “I was tryna beat the case, but I ain’t beat the case b*tch I did the race,” the record was later used as part of evidence in his 2019 trial.

The song peaked at No. 44 on Billboard Hot 100 and received several remixes including one from 21 Savage and Young Nudy.
