This is the second time in 2021 the Top Dawg Entertainment rapper has shared updates concerning his next body of work. On New Year’s Day, the introspective lyricist announced on Twitter that his album is on the way. He also ended up hinting at the possibilities of Kendrick Lamar’s album dropping soon as well.

“Yea the album is on the way, you knew that…” He wrote, before a fan asked if that’s the case with Kendrick, and Ab-Soul simply replied, “Yup.”

It’s been five years since the California artist dropped his last album, Do What Thou Wilt, which was released in 2016. He’s not the only one from TDE to go on a musical hiatus for a while. With the exception of REASON who dropped his New Beginnings album last year, artists like Kendrick and SZA haven’t released albums since their 2017 DAMN and CTRL respective albums.

In mid-January, TDE’s head, Punch, shared on Twitter that he’s in the studio with Ab-Soul, exposing him for covering his iPhone camera to keep the recording process top secret. “In the studio with @abdashsoul,” he wrote. “My Mans got duck tape covering the cameras on his iPhone. Lol.” He quickly rectified his spelling with “duct” in another tweet.

You can’t pay to get into never never land, you had to be invited and so he [Michael Jackson] would invite the independent stores to come down.”
