    Common & Pete also dropped new single

    Common and producer Pete Rock finally have a release date for their upcoming album Auditorium Vol 1. Earlier this month, the Be MC shared on Instagram the album cover as well as a release date of July 12. They also unleashed a new single titled “Dreamin’.”

    “For me, this all started with A Dream,” the Chicago rapper captioned the announcement post. “A Dream to let the world know I’ve been here. A dream to be a part of Hip Hop. A Dream to MC at a level where De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS-One and Ice Cube knew who I was. It’s been a dream of mine to work with the LEGENDARY @realpeterock (on more than just one song). I’ve been Dreamin’ my whole life.

    “I am super geeked and supremely grateful to announce our New Album – The Auditorium Vol. 1 dropping July 12. I have to say, the love you all have been showing has been INCREDIBLE. And know, anytime someone says they are ‘looking forward to that album you are doing with Pete Rock’ – It just makes me happy to be a part of this art form.     Common recalls Drizzy’s pops intervening in their feud

    Common and Drake once found themselves briefly on the opposite sides of the battle field in the early 2010s after the latter began a romantic relationship with the former’s ex Serena Williams.

    During a recent sit-down on Drink Champs along with producer Pete Rock, Common revealed that Drizzy’s dad Dennis Graham pushed them to burry the hatchet at the 2012 Grammy Awards.

    “I eventually saw Drake face to face,” the Chicago rapper recounted. “It was at a point where I was like, ‘Wassup?’ And we had little words.

    “And then his father was there and was like, ‘Y’all need to squash this.’ And I was like, ‘Man, this an elder talking to me. This this man’s father. Let me chill out.’ And then Drake just was like, ‘I ain’t on this.’ So we just squashed it.”

    He added, “I was like, ‘Listen, if we face to face, then aight, I’m done with it. Even if it was some subliminal disses, I said what I had to say. Right now, we saying we squashing it. We good.’”

    Common discusses the roots of his feud with Drake in the early 2010s that saw the two exchange diss records like “Sweet” & “Stay Schemin.” Recently speaking on Drink Champs, Common explained that he felt like Drizzy was aiming his guns at him after he started dating the Chicago MC’s ex Serena Williams.

    “I felt like Drake was sending me a couple of shots, subliminals,” Common explained. “I don’t know what motivated him to send me some shots but I think what for sure had me, if I’m just being real, like you know, we mess with one of the same girls. You know wars happen over women. That’s just what it is.”

    He continued, “I ain’t going to get at you if you with somebody I was with. But if you start throwing me a couple little, you know, you trying to throw some jabs then I’m like, ‘Come on, man, okay.’”

    “I was reminded that yesterday was the 19th anniversary for Be,” he wrote. “Be changed my life and it’s amazing how many people come to me young and old who tell me they were inspired by that album. Give Thanks To The Most High.

    De La Soul brings back memorable show

    De La Soul brings back the experience from their “historic” 1996 show at New York City’s Tramps with assistance from Common, Jungle Brothers and Yasiin Bey. The group held the show on Friday (April 26) with help from the same lineup as the original show.

    Common believes he’s working on a masterpiece

    Common has a lot faith in his upcoming album with Pete Rock. The Chi-town rapper recently appeared for an interview on MusiCares where he explained the great potential of the project.

    The rapper named the album among his to three albums with the other two being 2000’s Like Water For Chocolate and 2005’s Be.

    “Y’all gon’ think I’m just talking, but this new Pete Rock joint,” he said. “I’ma see y’all when I come back, whenever I’m back, and y’all can tell me if I’m bullshittin’ or not. It’s in my top. I’ve had a couple people coming in saying, ‘Yo, this is one of your best albums.’ So I’m excited about it.”

    Common originally announced the project in September and explained that he’d been looking at ’90s rap for inspiration. .

    Common thanks ‘everyone’ who contributed to & supported the project

    Common is happy to celebrate the 24th anniversary of his album, Like Water For Chocolate. Taking to Instagram on Thursday (March 28), the Windy City rapper appreciated everyone who helped put the album together and those who supported it.

    “24 years ago today I released an album that would change my life. Like Water for Chocolate,” he wrote. “Thank you to everyone who created and contributed to this piece and everyone who inspired and cultivated me during that time.

    “And for all those who supported this album and to this day come up to me and say it was their favorite album of mine…thank you. I receive that with Love and Gratitude.”

    Common praises André and Nas’ writing prowess

    Although Common is considered one of the best rappers when it comes to creativity, he is still awed by André 3000 and Nas’ top notch skills.

    “Him [André 3000] and Nas, for me, are the two that I’ll be like, ‘Damn, I wish I wrote that,’” Common said during a conversation on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning.

    He continued, “I was playing ‘New York State of Mind’ and one of the greatest lines ever written is, ‘Beyond the walls of intelligence life is defined/ I think of crime when I’m in a New York state of mind.’”

    While speaking about André’s new flute album New Blue Sun, the Chicago rapper legend added, “First of all, it’s just great to hear something from André. Of course I wanna hear his raps, but that dude has been such a creator… When I put on that flute album I was like, ‘Yo, this joint is dope to me.’”
