NBA Youngboy on wanting to become a Mormon: ‘I needed a friend’

Youngboy plans on taking the religious way in his quest for a better life

NBA Youngboy made his first ever interview with Billboard this week where he unveiled his plans to convert to Mormonism. The Baton Rouge native revealed that missionaries from the Latter-Saints Church have been helping him deal with his internal struggles.

“I wanted help very badly. I needed a friend. And it hit me,” Youngboy said. “It was just cool to see someone with a different mindset that had nothing to do with business or money — just these wonderful souls.”

The 23-year-old added that the missionaries wanted to “make sure” his “heart is at the right place” before he gets baptized, something he plans on doing after his house arrest is over.

“Even when my negative thoughts come back, when I do want to tell them, ‘Not today,’ I just don’t let nothing stop it,” he continued, before assuring his fans that he’s “not going back to who I used to be.”

NBA Youngboy’s associate Lil Pap pleads guilty in Gee Money’s murder

Lil Pap has been sentenced to five years prison in the murder of Gee Money

NBA Youngboy’s affiliate Lil Pap takes a plea deal in connection with the murder of fellow Baton Rouge rapper Gee Money. According to a report by The Advocate, Pap, real name Deandre Fields, was sentenced to five years in prison after taking the deal this week. In a statement, District Attorney Hillar Moore said they couldn’t prove Pap was guilty of the murder since the key witness in the case was indicted for a separate second-degree murder in 2020.

Pap was facing second-degree murder charges that attract a mandatory life sentence, but after pleading guilty, he was sentenced for accessory after the fact, implying that he helped the actual killer after the crime.

“This arrest created a serious issue to the successful trial of Deandre Fields as the state’s eyewitness has been indicted for a homicide himself,” Moore said. “There was no other direct information outside of some circumstantial evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Fields was responsible for this homicide.

“Under the circumstances the state was not in any other position but to resolve this matter under these circumstances,” he continued. “My office has discussed these issues with Mr. Burton’s family prior to accepting this plea.”

He continued, “I say corporations spend millions on advertising, why can’t rappers? I am glad @mgkb_law could get this work of art back to its rightful owner. Looks much better on YB anyways!”
