Swizz Beatz reveals DMX dropped “Ruff Ryders Anthem” after losing a bet

“Ruff Ryders Anthem” would’ve otherwise not see the light of the day

Swizz Beatz explains how DMX ended up adding his classic record “Ruff Ryders Anthem” on his 1998 album, It’s Dark and Hell is Hot, something he wasn’t initially considering. Recently speaking with SiriusXM’s Hip-Hop Nation, Swizz revealed that X only decided to release the iconic song after losing a bet.

“X lost a bet or I wouldn’t even been on that album, you know what I’m saying?” Swizz recalled. “But he didn’t lose the bet because that song ended up changing all of our lives. So he technically won the bet for my Uncle D and you know that just changed all of our lives. So it was just enough to do what it needed to do.”

He added, “You know, like that song commercially went bigger than everything at the time. And then we came immediately, uh, with our sound next after that and Dame Grease and PK was a part of that as well. I wanna get [them] they props cuz they, people they feel that they don’t get they props. I’m in a comfortable space to give people they props. At those particular times we was definitely bumping the little heads and things like that, but we all was a part of making history at the end of the day.”

Swizz Beatz is one of the highly respected producers in the rap game, thanks to his classic work he has contributed. His success is a result of his hard work, but overworking once caught up with his health. During a recent interview on the Jennifer Hudson Show captured by HipHopDX, Swizz recalled when a doctor told him that he might lose his ability to walk after suffering spinal meningitis.

“When you come from nothing, and you finally get success, [you] get a piece of what you thought you could never get from your surroundings,” Swizz explained “We just have a habit of going hard as men, you know, and it caught up to me. I remember staying up for four days straight just over-pushing it. It messed up my immune system — I had spinal meningitis. And I remember going to the hospital, and the doctor was cold. He was cold as ice.

“As soon as I walked in, he said, ‘okay, you might not die, but you’ll never walk again,’” he added. “That was the first thing they said to me when I went into the hospital. But I was in so much pain, I was like, ‘Let’s get on to it.’ But, Alhamdulillah [Praise be to Allah], I came back, and I beat the odds with that one. And now, I try to take my health a little bit more serious.”

Swizz talks how his son became close to Kendrick Lamar and produced for him

Swizz Beatz shares more details on how his son Egypt, whom he shares with Alicia Keys, got close to Kendrick Lamar at just five years old and ended up producing a song on K-Dot’s 2016 project, Untitled Unmastered. During a recent sit-down on the Jenifer Hudson Show, Swizz was speaking about his son, who is now 12, when he revealed that Egypt and Kendrick became close when they sat together at Super Bowl game and chopped it up for around 40 minutes. Egypt ended up producing the track, “Untitled 7.”

“He and Kendrick were talking for, like, 40 minutes,” Swizz recounted. “I went over and said to Kendrick, ‘Is he bothering you? Should I move him? Are you enjoying yourself?’ He said, ‘No, Swizz, I had writer’s block and what Egypt is telling me is helping me deal with something. I was like, ‘Man, he’s five years old.’ To this day, I still don’t know what he was helping him deal with. I let it happen.”

When Swizz was asked if Egypt charged Kendrick for work done, he replied, “he definitely charged him, he definitely got some money off that record.”

When Egypt later joined the interview however, he revealed that being a producer wasn’t on his plans. “I love music but I don’t really want to be a musician. I want to be a basketball player,” he said.

Swizz Beatz says he’s not up for 50 Cent Vs Lil Wayne Verzuz: ‘they’re two different artists’

Swizz doesn’t think 50 Vs Wayne Verzuz is a good idea

The internet has been filled with debates over who would win in a Verzuz between 50 Cent and Lil Wayne over the past week. According to Verzuz co-founder Swizz Beatz, the match is not ideal since Fif and Wayne are rappers in different lanes.

“Me personally, I wouldn’t even do 50 vs. Wayne – they two different dynamics and two different artists,” Swizz said while speaking to Baller Alert last week.

“I would do a different Verzuz for both of them, but we’ll see as we have a lot of things lined up for Verzuz, and hopefully, they are involved. While I can’t give up who I would choose to go against them, just wait and see,” he added.
