Babyface discusses paying tribute to his mum in forthcoming Super Bowl performance

Babyface is preparing to perform at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime next month, and he’s partnering with a company to use the proceedings in making hoodies that will be donated to Alzheimer patients in his late mother’s honor.

“For these past few years ever since my mom passed away, I’ve always been always kind of pushing myself to go do things that would be either out of my comfort zone or things that I hadn’t done before,” Babyface explained to TMZ on Wednesday (January 25). “And so now here I am on the Super Bowl and I could just imagine what she would think at this particular point. And even my brother Marvin who’s not here with us either, he’d be jumping up and down.”

He added, “Because this is important to me, I ended up teaming up with this company called Shine The Light On. They do t-shirts and hoodies, and so we’re going to do some hoodies together and I’m going to be able to donate some of those proceeds to Keep Memory Alive – which was something that my mom did which deals with Alzheimer’s patients. It’s a full thing that makes it all make sense. It was supposed to happen.”

Babyface also gained a younger audience after a Verzuz against Teddy Riley

R&B singer Babyface recently revealed how his Verzuz match against Teddy Riley helped skyrocket his Instagram popularity. During a chat on Million Dollars Worth of Game podcast on Sunday (August 28), the singer disclosed that his Instagram following rose from 300k to over a million over the night of the Verzuz contest.

“Verzuz was just so powerful I went from 300,000 followers on Instagram to over a million overnight,” he explained. “I remember I went to Walgreens and there was a young girl that said she didn’t know my stuff but she was [now] a fan.”

He added that the Verzuz exposed his work to a younger fanbase and prompted him to work with contemporary artists like Ari Lennox, Doechii, and Sevyn Streeter on his next album, Girls Night Out. “I realized I started reaching a younger crowd and I thought I should do music that touches them as well.”
